STATE TARGETS OVER A MILLION FARMERS FOR FISP

THE Ministry of Agriculture says 1,024,434 farmers are targeted to benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the 2022/2023 farming season.

And in order to qualify for the programme a farmer needs to be a member of a registered farmer organisation or co-operating with a registration certificate issued by the Department of Co-operatives under the ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise or the Registrar of Societies.

Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Green Mboozi said in a statement yesterday, that a farmer could also be registered and farming with the camp coverage and cultivating not more than five hectares of land.

He said other qualifications were the farmer should have capacity to pay the K400 contribution per pack and should not be an employee of Government or public institutions.

“A farmer should possess a green National Registration Card (NRC). A voter’s card is not a requirement for a farmer to be registered or benefit from the programme,” he said.

Mr Mbozi said a farmer should not also be benefiting from the Food Security Pack under the ministry of Community Development and that those benefitting from the Social Cash Transfer could not benefit from FISP.

He also said that individuals in gainful employment and contributing to pension funds were not eligible to benefit from FISP while retirees and senior citizens were allowed to benefit.

Each farmer would be given three by 50 kg bags of Compound D and three by 50 kg urea bags of fertilisers, one by 10 kg bag of maize seed and either One by 25 kg bag of soya bean seed or one by 20 kg bag of groundnut seed.
