UK Minister of State for Development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell has assured President Hakainde Hichilema of the UK’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s debt negotiations under the Common Framework.
Mr. Mitchell commended Zambia for being a strong voice for democracy in the region.
He also emphasized that the UK government will continue investing in Zambia through the development finance institution, British International Investment.
Mr. Mitchell was speaking with President Hichilema on the sidelines of the ongoing Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
And President Hichilema informed the Minister that government is investing in communities, women, and the youth.
The Head of State said there is skills training, social protection through Social Cash Transfers, and safe spaces for the vulnerable in health facilities.
Meanwhile President Hichilema also held bilateral meetings with King Mswati III of Eswatini on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
The meeting with King Mswati is a follow up to the state visit to the Kingdom in 2022.
The two leaders’ discussion was centred on bilateral relations, peace, and security cooperation in the region.
President Hichilema reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to efforts by SADC member states to restore peace and stability in Mozambique and the region.
And King Mswati also gave feedback on interventions at the recent SADC Organ Troika meeting which convened in Namibia.
