UNDP PLEDGES SUPPORT TO ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL, CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGES IN ZAMBIA

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged support to the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment in the formulation of the Green Growth Strategy, Carbon trading, and Nationally Determined Contribution, among others.
UNDP Resident Representative Lionel Laurens made the commitment when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Green Economy and Environment Honourable Collins Nzovu in Lusaka.
Mr. Laurens further assured of UNDP’s willingness to support Zambia’s chairmanship for the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) on Climate Change, and on the formulation of the law on climate change.
“We can work hand-in-hand with your team to develop projects that can be submitted for support,” said Mr. Laurens.
And Mr. Nzovu, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and Directors, commended the UNDP for its continued support to Zambia.
“I wish to reemphasise the need to collaborate with the UNDP in forestry development and management; green economy and climate change; meteorological and weather services; environmental protection and management; and capacity building,” Mr. Nzovu said. “We remain optimistic that the green growth trajectory will attract investment and innovation for sustainable economic growth envisaged to translate in to various economic opportunities.”
