WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will allow users to link their accounts across multiple phones simultaneously. This feature will enable up to four additional devices to connect to a single WhatsApp account, just like WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets, and desktops.
The new feature allows users to switch between phones without having to sign out and pick up chats where they left off. For small business owners, this means that additional employees can respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.
The update has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. WhatsApp assures users that their personal messages, media, and calls will remain end-to-end encrypted, and if their primary device is inactive for a long period, they will be automatically logged out of all companion devices.
In addition to this, WhatsApp is introducing an alternative and more accessible way to link to companion devices. Users can now enter their phone number on WhatsApp Web to receive a one-time code, which they can use on their phone to enable device linking, rather than having to scan a QR code.
The move comes after WhatsApp introduced the ability for users globally to message seamlessly across all their devices while maintaining the same level of privacy and security.
