The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) has invested over One Million United States Dollars in state of the art equipment for harvesting timber.
ZAFFICO Acting managing director BRIAN MUTALE said this at the equipment handover at BELL Workshop in Kitwe.
Mr. MUTALE said the central logging system equipment will increase the volume of timber harvested compared to what was harvested in the past.
He said the new system which is highly mechanized will cut off the approximation of timber supplied to saw millers and other clients because the central logging system will be precise.
Mr. MUTALE also noted that the state of the art equipment is the first of its kind in the country.
He said the equipment will also reduce accidents during timber harvesting.
Meanwhile ZAFFICO director of human resource WILBROAD KATEMA said the corporation has also started training its employees on how to operate the central logging system.
