ZAMBIA RECORDS 300 CANCER CASES IN CHILDREN ANNUALLY

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says Zambia is recording more than 300 cancer cases in children annually.

Ms. MASEBO says most cases in pediatric present themselves through Leukemia and Kaposi’s sarcoma.

She says cancer in children cannot be prevented but that it can be controlled through diagnosis and followed by early treatment.

Ms MASEBO however says the Government has made strides towards controlling the disease with support from the World Health Organisation -WHO- which has prioritised Zambia as one of the needy countries.

She was speaking at the Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation in Lusaka where she was represented by Dr. SUSAN MUSADABWE, Head Clinical Care at the Cancer Diseases Hospital -CDH.

And the Foundation’s board chairperson DAVID KOMBE said the organisation has been working with the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka to accommodate patients and their parents, some of whom come from far places such as Kaputa and Shangombo districts.
