The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation say the Zambian Embassy in Moscow is engaging Russian and Ukrainian authorities over the plight of Zambians in Ukraine.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry said the move followed the political and security tension between Russia and Ukraine, which resulted in numerous inquiries from parents and guardians of Zambians studying in Ukraine.
“The ministry would like to inform the public that through the Zambian Embassy in Moscow, it is in contact with both the Russian and Ukrainian authorities and both parties have emphasised the importance of dialogue as the only option to end the current impasse,” the ministry said.
The embassy also engaged the Zambian community in Kiev, Ukraine, on Friday last week, where the Zambians were directed to remain alert and utilise the available communication platforms.
The ministry said as a security measure, all Zambians in Ukraine were advised to carry necessary identity documents and avoid non-essential travel around the country.
“While the Government continues to monitor very closely the situation in Ukraine, parents and guardians who would like to urgently evacuate their children, may take the liberty to do so,” the statement read in part.
The Ministry reassured the public through its mission in Moscow, that the Government would continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine.
