The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has donated 30 motor vehicles which were seized this year to four Government institutions.
The benefiting institutions are Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU-, National Parole Board, Joint Investigations Team, and the Financial Intelligence Center -FIC.
The Authority has also donated other goods and consumables worth 1.5 million Kwacha to DMMU to assist with the operations of the Unit.
ZRA Commissioner General DINGANI BANDA says the donated vehicles and goods were seized this year by the customs service division and the enforcement unit.
Mr. BANDA says the purpose of donating and disposing of seized items is to discourage and curtail smuggling.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. BANDA said the vehicles and goods were seized for various offences ranging from attempted smuggling, misclassification and under valuation.
He said the authority will not relent in it’s enforcement activities as long as the illicit activities are part of society.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police DORRIS NAYAME thanked ZRA for the gesture, adding that it will enhance the investigations of the Joint Investigations Team.
Ms. NAYAME said the country will see an improvement in the services of the JIT because it is receiving overwhelming support.
