In another sign of stability of the once beleaguered mining giant, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has paid it’s debt with Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSSC) Ltd to a partial tune of K23, 256,948 as part of the Scheme Arrangement.
Speaking when handing over the cheque to the water utility firm, KCM Chief Operating Officer, Malcolm Mewett said the payment to Mulonga Water, as a critical partner to KCM’s operations, was a clear demonstration of KCM’s commitment to paying all creditors in both Class One and Class Two under the Scheme of Arrangement.
And MWSC Managing Director, Ndilakulampa Hamalambo said his company was pleased to have received the money from KCM.
“The money will not only benefit Chingola residents, but also communities in other towns where the firm exists. As you may be aware, apart from operating in Chingola, Mulonga Water operates in Mufulira, and Chililabombwe districts, and this money will benefit the communities in these areas to a greater extent,” Hamalambo said.
