The Merseyside club has announced the passing of former Liverpool and arsenal Ray Kennedy at age 70.

Kennedy won three European cups and five league titles with the Reds, whom he joined from Arsenal in 1974 having done the League and FA Cup double with the Gunners three years prior.

Kennedy’s personal highlight was a mind blowing goal in the 1981 European Cup semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1984 and a game in his honor was held between Liverpool and Arsenal in 1991.

Later in the same year, Kennedy sold his Medals and 17 England caps to help fundraise for his healthcare. A statement on Liverpool’s official website stated “The thoughts of Everybody at Liverpool FC are with Ray’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.”

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge paid tribute to Kennedy, tweeting “yet another magnificent Ex LFC star has passed away folks. Ray Kennedy, what a player and lovely blocke who suffered so much with Parkinson’s disease for most of his life. He will definitely never walk along. RIP Ray YWNWA.”
