Government says it will engage the Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Board of Control and Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions over the impasse on the Super Bantam Weight title fight between Catherine Phiri and Zimbabwe’s Kudakwashe Chiwendire.
The Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Board of Control issued a statement that it had withdrawn the license from Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions from staging the fight.
But, Ministry of Sports Permanent Secretary Chileshe Kangwa told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that Government will meet the Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Board of Control and Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions tomorrow.
Kangwa said this is because the fight is of public interest.
He said Government understands that Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions has obligations to meet.
Board Secretary Expendito Chipalo said the Board has withdrawn the license following Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion’s failure to pay the sanction fee of 4-thousand 4-hundred and 50 United States Dollars by Wednesday 17: 00.
He said Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion had asked for an extension to pay the statutory requirements and the permission was granted.
Chipalo said even after the extension, Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion has not managed to pay the required sanction fees.
