THE Earth Guardians Environmental Literacy Initiative for Zambia (EGELIZ) says it has taken President Hakainde Hichilema’s challenge at the recently- held 27th session Conference of Parties (COP27) in Egypt to act against climate change effects.
This is by promoting the planting of trees.
EGELIZ coordinator Isaac Mulindi said discussions at the COP had for decades bordered on tackling climate challenges and the youths could no longer wait for world leaders to decide the fate of humanity on environment matters.
“Since His excellence the president of Zambia attended the COP27, the Earth Guardian ELIZ crew felt the need to help the President by way of choosing action now,” Mr. Mulindi said.
Mr. Mulindi said in response to a press query that EGELIZ had embarked on planting trees as part of the Choose action Now campaign.
Mr. Mulindi said EGELIZ recently planted trees at Mary Mwango Police Post in Lusakaz among other activities.
He was elated that the police pledged to sternly deal with people who engage in activities that endangered the environment like undiscriminate cutting down of trees as that might cause climate disorder.
Mr. Mulindi also appealed to the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and Lusaka City Council to work with the police to bring to book people who are dumping garbages at undesignated areas while encouraging recycling.
He further called for the discouragement of using plastic sachets for packaging alcohol drinks as they were the most hazardous and non-decomposing items.
EGELIZ is an independent campaigning organization, which aims at using peaceful, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future.
