The Bank of Zambia has dispelled the notice that has gone viral on social media that the central bank has phased-out the use of cheques in the country.
In a statement, BOZ Assistant Director – Communications Besnart Mwanza said the notice on phasing out of cheques has not been issued by the Central bank.
Mwanza stated that while the BOZ is currently discussing the possibility of phasing out cheques with stakeholders, these consultations are still ongoing adding that the bank will accordingly issue a public statement once the engagements are concluded.
“We therefore appeal to members of the public to ignore the said public notice,” She said.
