More Needs To Be Done To Market Zambia-Sikumba

By Brian Mwale

Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA says there is need to find projects in the sector where a component of Tourism Levy can be channeled to help market the country as a tourism destination.

Speaking during a Hotel’s General Managers’ Association cocktail held in Lusaka , Mr. SIKUMBA said 70 percent of the Levy is collected in Lusaka and Livingstone hence the need to support Hotel operators.

He added that ploughing back the money for the benefit of the operators who play an important role in the running of the industry is key.

The Minister stated that Government will never compete with private sector but supplement their effort.

And Mr. SIKUMBA said the Hotel grading that Government introduced is not a money-making venture but was meant to upgrade standards of facilities.

And Hotel’s General Managers’ Association representative JOHAN KLANG said there is need for the Zambia Tourism Agency to focus on international marketing.

Mr. KLANG also noted that the event was important to help the industry players to share some of the concerns affecting the sector.

This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC News by Ministry of Tourism Public Relations Officer SAKABILO KALEMBWE.
