Rihanna has been named a national hero of Barbados by Prime Minister Mia Mottley during an event  celebrating the island’s new status as a republic. The Sensational Caribbean Pop star was given the title  following a ceremony of handover of power from the British Monarch to the people of Barbados. Prime  Minister Mia Mottley said to Rihanna at the ceremony in Bridgetown, “On behalf of a grateful nation,  but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you, the designee to you, for national hero Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rhianna Fenty may you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor  to your nation by your works, by your actions.

Rhianna was born in Saint Michael in Barbados and raised in the capital city Bridgetown. She was later  discovered by US producer Evan Rodgers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes and  was then signed her first record deal with Def Jam in 2005.

Rihanna announced a limited edition vinyl reissue of all her eight albums, called the “rih-issue”.
