Government has released K3.8 million to the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to work on the Munkonchi Luano road in Central Province.
ZNS Central Province lands development officer Humphrey Ndalama confirmed the development and that engineers would soon move to the site to start the project.
Lieutenant Colonel Ndalama said in Kabwe yesterday when the ZNS provincial leadership paid courtecy call on Central Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa.
Colenel Ndalama said his department had not received funding over the last five years, hence delays to undertake any road works.
He said the institution would also work on the township roads in Luano and Ngabwe districts, the new districts in the province.
Central Province training schoo commander Clement Chanda said the land development office ws key and worked hand in hand with the provincial administration.
He said the ZNS road machinery was available for hire to the public and the prices were reasonable.
Colenel Chanda said ZNS was a versatile institution which had all the professions apart from pilots.
“We are a versatile institution and have all the professions, the land development is key department as it has the various earth moving machinery,” he said.
And Mr. Nanjuka said the Mukonchi/Luano road was an important stretch and the works would help open the newly created district to the rest of the province.
It’s unfortunate that in the last five years you did not get funding for the roads, but this Government is committed to provide the road infrastructure for the citizenry to benefit, “ he said
