12 KITWE PUPILS

ABOUT 12 pupils at Wesley Nyirenda Combined School in Ndeke Village were rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) with chest pains and dry coughs after unidentified people sprayed unknown substance in a grade two class which choked the pupils.

Ms Doris Lungo, a senior teacher, of house number H143 Ndeke Village reported that unidentified people had sprayed an unknown substance in a Grade 2 class, which choked the children.

They started complaining of chest pains and dry cough before they were rushed to KTH.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Sharon Cheelo Zulu confirmed the incident which happened on Wednesday around 13.00 hours and said the 12 pupils were examined and observed at the hospital and discharged on the same day.

“I can confirm that on Wednesday, around 1300hrs at Wesley Nyirenda Secondary School in Ndeke village, Lungo Doris a senior teacher of house number H143 Ndeke village reported that unknown people had sprayed a unknown substance in a grade two class which choked the children. “

The victims were complaining of chest pains and dry cough. The 12 affected children had been rushed to the hospital after being given medical forms.

All the 12 pupils were examined and observed at the hospital by the doctor and later discharged the same day.

Their condition is stable. The doctor confirmed that it could be unknown toxic substance that affected the pupils,’’ Ms Zulu said

Ms Zulu said police officers visited the scene and smell of toxic substance was smelt and was also discovered that the same classroom blocks acts as wall fence and has small windows on it making it easy for anyone to throw anything inside the classrooms.
