The Health and Wellness department at First Quantum has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign on mental health, spanning a quarter, across its Kansanshi Mining PLC site in Solwezi and FQM Trident site in Kalumbila.
Grace Kombe, the Health and Wellness Coordinator, leads her team in ensuring employees are mentally prepared for their daily work routines. Stands have been set up at the IFS canteen at Kansanshi and the ATS canteen at Trident, offering various health tests, including those for hypertension, malaria, and HIV.
“We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and we want to ensure that our employees have the tools and resources they need to take care of their mental well-being,” said Ms Kombe.
“By providing on-site testing and education, we hope to empower our employees to take an active role in managing their mental health,” she added.
In addition to addressing physical health concerns, the department prioritises mental health this quarter, emphasising stress, anxiety, and depression management. Exercise is promoted as a key strategy to counter negative mental health effects.
The Health and Wellness department intends to sustain the campaign throughout the quarter, providing ongoing support and resources to foster a healthy work-life balance among employees.
