ZNS employees to be registered on Zamtel closed user group

Zambia telecommunications (Zamtel) Limited has partnered with Zambia National Service to reduce and enhance the cost of communication for the Defence Force wing.

Under the agreement, Zamtel will be offering ZNS a mobile service product dubbed Closed User Group (CUG) that will enable Service personnel communicate with each other for free for a period of 24 months.

CUG is a package for mobile communication that is suitable for a large group where members call each other for free.

It works more like extension lines for a landline but on mobile.

Acting Zamtel Chief Executive Officer Jason Mwanza says CUG is a good product which will lower the cost of communication for ZNS personnel.

”Zamtel is grateful and honoured to collaborate with ZNS, we are offering you CUG a product that will enable a larger number of your personnel to communicate with each other for free,” Mr Mwanza said.

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi at his office.

Mr Mwanza said the partnership will benefit both institutions as it will increase Zamtel’s customer base while at the same time reducing the cost of communication for ZNS personnel.

He stated that the product will also improve work efficiency for ZNS personnel.

”The package also comes with additional services such as provision of data bundles. ZNS personnel will in addition have an opportunity to access their partial salary and other mobile money services,” Mr Mwanza said.

In his remarks, Lt Gen Solochi said ZNS is ready to take up the product.

Lt Gen Solochi indicated that over 300 ZNS employees will be registered on the CUG platform in the initial phase before extending coverage to more personnel.

”Zamtel is a Government mobile service provider and as ZNS, we will support the services offered by the institution,” he said.

”Our appeal to Zamtel though is that the institution should improve the network so that there are no barriers or breakdown in communication.”
