Education Minister, Douglas Syakalima has urged newly commissioned university councils to be innovative by creating additional income streams besides funds that come from Treasury.
Mr. Syakalima says that through additional incomes, higher institutions of learning will be able to address challenges of high debt and inadequate infrastructure.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Syakalima was speaking at the inauguration of councilors for eight public universities that was held in Kabwe, Central Province.
And Ministry of Permanent Secretary for Administration, Noriana Muneka urged the new councilors to find ways of dismantling debts in public universities.
And Permanent Secretary for Techical Services Joel Kamoko urged the councilors to be firm, fair and vigilant in the way they use their experience in dealing with the affairs of the universities they have been entrusted to manage.
