HH wants contractors that abandoned projects prosecuted

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has directed the North Western Provincial administration to prosecute all contractors that have abandoned construction works but have been paid by the government.

President HICHILEMA says all stalled projects in the province should be investigated and if the contractor was paid, the government should find a way of recovering the money that they spent.

Speaking when he toured the newly constructed Manyinga Civic Centre in Manyinga District, the head of state said every contractor that has not delivered yet has been paid by government should now be blocked from conducting business with the government.

The head of state said government will not protect any officer or contractor involved in corruption regardless of their political affiliation.

President HICHILEMA said his Government wants to ensure that all resources in government are utilized prudently and no individual should benefit at the expense of Zambians.

Meanwhile, North Western province Minister ROBERT LIHEFU said construction of Manyinga Police Station has stalled since 2015 and the contractor has abandoned the site

Mr. LIHEFU said this is despite the contractor being paid in full to construct the Police station.

He said it is sad that members of the public are suffering without social amenities while individuals are benefiting at their expense.
