Kansanshi Mining Plc. Partners with DEC in the fight against Drug Abuse

By John Chola

Kansanshi Mining Plc., through its Kansanshi Foundation, has joined forces with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in the fight against illicit drug abuse in Zambia.

DEC Director General Nason Banda said the partnership exemplifies the First Quantum Minerals’ and KMP’s commitment to the social corporate responsibility and their recognition of the detrimental impact drug abuse has on individuals, families, and communities.

As part of this collaboration, the mine has funded the printing of 2,500 educational brochures valued at K5,365 for the DEC.

“These brochures serve as vital Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials used by the Commission during sensitization campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its consequences,” Mr Banda stated.

Banda has since thanked Kansanshi Mining Plc. for contributing to the fight against drug abuse.

The DEC DG added that the generous contribution will significantly enhance the Commission’s efforts to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and empower communities to fight this menace.

The partnership also highlights the importance of collaboration between private companies and government agencies in addressing critical social issues like drug abuse.

By working together, Banda said, they can leverage their respective resources and expertise to create a safer and healthier Zambia.
